MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK

LWV-New Jersey Annual Appeal and Callathon
OldTelephone
Thank you to Sandy, Chrystal, Ellen, Bev, and Nancy for making the calls assigned to the Princeton League and to all the members who have generously donated through the annual appeal and follow-up callathon. These calls resulted in 11 additional donors, including those who specified a total of $310 and several unspecified amounts.

LWV-New Jersey Convention

Convention copy

Everyone is welcome to attend the Cocktail Reception on Friday, May 1 and the Bi-annual Convention on Saturday, May 2. The Princeton Area League is entitled to four voting delegates in addition to Lee Forbes, who is already on the Board. Sandy Smith, Ellen Kemp, and Melissa Scott will represent us on Saturday. A report on Convention will be published in May on the LWV-NJ website.

Melissa will be joining Lee as a director on the LWV-NJ Board, and Ellen will become its treasurer. We congratulate them on their nomination and extend our gratitude for their service.

Three new 50-year members will be honored at Convention. They are Lenore Danielson, Frieda Gilvarg, and Ingrid Reed. To support LWV-NJ, the Princeton Area League purchased an ad in the brochure that will be distributed at the Gala. The ad honors all nine of our 50-year members.

Annual Meeting and Dinner
Monday, June 8 at 6 PM at the Salt Creek Grille
The brief business meeting for members only starts at 6 p.m. We will be voting on the budget, Leadership Committee, and local League positions. Copies of these documents will be emailed in advance.

Laurenzi-2015
We are grateful to Ingrid Reed for finding our keynote speaker, Margarethe Laurenzi, whose topic is Juvenile Justice, Human Trafficking, and Philanthropy. Please reserve your place by June 1.

Budget-graphic 2A budget reminder
from Ellen Kemp, treasurer:

Members who do not request reimbursement for fees for conferences and other LWV events or for expenditures on League functions should let the Leadership Committee know what they spent so that it can be factored into future budgeting. Although League is grateful when individuals pay for expenditures that are rightfully the responsibility of the League, charging the League and then making a donation to the League or the Education Fund for the equivalent amount is an alternative. In any case, it is important that the treasurer know what is being spent so that she can budget for the future.

The Future
Those of us at Tuesday's meeting thanked Sandy Smith for her three years of leadership, years in which the League increased its activities and visibility and earned LVW-NJ's Communication Award. Although the Leadership Committee has planned three formal business meetings next year, members who would like to see the League co-sponsor an event consistent with our mission or who wish to organize such an event are encouraged to check with the Leadership Committee. Like all organizations, the League is only as strong and active as its members.

Summaries of LWV-Princeton Area monthly meetings may be found at lwvprinceton.org.

Reminders about upcoming events will continue to be sent by email, but everyone should go to the League website lwvprinceton.org and click on rss-button Subscribe to be sure of missing nothing.
