The League of Women Voters of the Princeton Area was pleased to offer voter registration to new US citizens who were sworn in at a Naturalization Ceremony in Princeton on September 18, 2019.Â
During the ceremony, hosted by the Princeton Public Library, 23 men and women from 12 different countries were administered the Oath of Allegiance by Ya-Mei Chen, Field Office Director for the Mount Laurel Office of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Remarks were made by Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert and Ben Chang, Acting Assistant Vice President for Communications, Princeton University. The ceremony also included a pledge of allegiance to the flag, singing of the national anthem and several patriotic videos.
Princeton League members Sandy Smith, Jeanne Turner, Carin Lin, Cindy Gordon, and Melissa Scott answered a number of questions from the new citizens and helped 13 of them complete their registration forms. It was exciting for everyone to participate in this very first act of citizenship!
